Yard Waste
Grass can be Greener on your side.Grasscycling is better than bagging

Grass clippings do not have to be a waste management problem. By simply leaving grass clippings on your lawn or "Grasscycling", the problem is solved. Furthermore, if grasscycling is performed properly, the grass clippings can actually improve lawn quality by retaining moisture and providing the lawn with valuable nutrients. Grasscycling also saves time and energy. It is easy and can be done by removing the bag on your lawn mower, retrofitting your existing mower into a mulcher, or purchasing a new mulching mower.

Recycling Waste Back into Nature

Composting is a great way to turn kitchen waste and yard waste into a rich soil conditioner. Compost can improve the soil in your lawn and add nutrients to your garden and plants.

Composting is easy! You don't need any special knowledge or equipment, and it takes only a little extra time to collect your kitchen and yard wastes and establish a compost pile.

Yard Waste Mulch

Mulch is not compost. It is still very warm and is still in the process of biodegradation. It is 100% organic and comes from a combination of leaves, grass, brush and tree trimmings.

Mulch can be used on lawns or in flower gardens to conserve moisture, lower soil temperature, reduce erosion, provide nutrients, reduce soil compaction, and discourage the establishment of weeds.

Making your own Mulch...Try a back yard composter for your extra yard waste

You can make your own mulch or compost, from your own grass clippings, tree trimmings, leaves, and kitchen wastes. Simply place these materials in a backyard pile or in a backyard composter. The Authority sells backyard composters at all Home Hardware Stores ($30.00 including taxes). You can also make your own backyard composter.

When accessing the Drop Off Depots for your yard waste disposal, we recommend that you place your yard waste in cardboard boxes or paper yard waste bags, not plastic. It is best to separate your grass clippings from your leaves & brush.

If you choose to bring the yard waste in plastic bags you will be required to empty the bag of it's contents in the appropriate location then either keep your bag or place it in the on site garbage bins.

Plastic is not compostable.

Municipalities accept yard waste (where collection is available) in the following containers:Yard Waste Containers: Cardboard Boxes, Paper Yard Waste Bags or REUSABLE plastic containers
  • Cardboard Boxes
  • Reusable plastic containers (waste cans, bins)
  • Paper Yard Waste Bags

Branches are to be cut and bundled
