Grass can be Greener on your side.
Grass clippings do not have to be a waste management problem. By simply leaving grass clippings on your lawn or "Grasscycling", the problem is solved. Furthermore, if grasscycling is performed properly, the grass clippings can actually improve lawn quality by retaining moisture and providing the lawn with valuable nutrients. Grasscycling also saves time and energy. It is easy and can be done by removing the bag on your lawn mower, retrofitting your existing mower into a mulcher, or purchasing a new mulching mower.
Please be aware that grass is restricted from disposal at our Landfill Site.
Recycling Waste Back into Nature
Composting is a great way to turn kitchen waste and yard waste into a rich soil conditioner. Compost can improve the soil in your lawn and add nutrients to your garden and plants.
Composting is easy! You don't need any special knowledge or equipment, and it takes only a little extra time to collect your kitchen and yard wastes and establish a compost pile.
Yard Waste Mulch
Mulch is not compost. It is still very warm and is still in the process of biodegradation. It is 100% organic and comes from a combination of leaves, grass, brush and tree trimmings.
Mulch can be used on lawns or in flower gardens to conserve moisture, lower soil temperature, reduce erosion, provide nutrients, reduce soil compaction, and discourage the establishment of weeds.
Making your own Mulch...
You can make your own mulch or compost, from your own grass clippings, tree trimmings, leaves, and kitchen wastes. Simply place these materials in a backyard pile or in a backyard composter. The Authority sells backyard composters at all Home Hardware Stores ($30.00 including taxes). You can also make your own backyard composter.
