New Plastics
Bigger Box / More Materials
Great News! We are adding more materials to the Blue Box! Even better news…we are GIVING you a BIGGER Blue Box in order to provide you with additional capacity for all those extra recyclables!
More Materials?
You can now recycle new plastics products in the Blue Box. Items like food trays (single serving and platters), clamshell containers, and plastic cups (yes, even the ones from Tim Horton’s). EWSWA is working with local companies to process and recycle these plastic items into lawn chairs, car bumpers, polar fleece, rugs and so on. Your clamshell packaging could end up as a Muskoka chair!
BIGGER Blue Box?
During the months of May and June every homeowner in Windsor and Essex County received a BIGGER Blue Box courtesy of the Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority.
The bigger Blue Box should be used for containers only – and please don’t overload it with glass. Too much glass in the larger box will make it too heavy. Do NOT use the Blue Box for paper products either. It is designed for ‘containers only’.
Have Some Questions?
Q. When is my new bigger Blue Box being delivered?
A. Delivery for all new boxes in Windsor and Essex County is scheduled to be completed by the end of June.
Q. Why should I recycle more – it all goes in the garbage anyway?
A. No it does not. The new plastics we are now accepting can be made into lawn chairs, car bumpers, polar fleece, rugs and so on! Your clamshell packaging could end up as a Muskoka chair!
Q. Why can’t you recycle all plastics?
A. There are thousands of different plastics in the marketplace and many are not compatible with each other. Therefore they must be recycled separately.
