Earth Day Event April 27, 2025 - Grow Green With The Green Bin!

Post-Event Media Release

April 25, 2026

This year will mark the 55th anniversary of Earth Day. First celebrated in 1970, it now includes events in more than 192 countries. Locally, the Essex-Windsor region will celebrate it on Sunday, April 27, 2025 at Malden Park (4200 Malden Road) in Windsor. It will start with a brief Opening Ceremony with local leaders at 10 a.m. and the FREE event will continue until 3 p.m. There will be environmental exhibits, arts and crafts, games, collector trucks, prizes, and entertainment for people of all ages! Participants are encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle as the hydration station will be onsite.

The Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority (EWSWA) at this year’s event will launch the new Green Bin Program to the public. Did you know that almost half of the garbage set-out by Essex-Windsor households is food waste and organic materials? This can simply be eliminated by putting food waste and organics in the other bin, the Green Bin, starting this October for Phase 1 municipalities such as Essex, Lakeshore, LaSalle, Tecumseh and Windsor.

Celebrate the new Green Bin Program with the EWSWA’s Green Team:

  • Touch and feel the new EWSWA Green Bin and Kitchen Catcher
