Essex-Windsor Residents Divert Over 28 Tonnes of Recycling Containers Through The EWSWA Take Back Program
Media Release
May 27, 2026
The Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority (EWSWA) announced that the Recycling Container Take Back Program has successfully diverted more than 28 tonnes of recycling containers from the Essex-Windsor Regional Landfill.
The Take Back Program was established in response to the provincial transition to Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), under which Circular Materials (CM) assumed responsibility for the Blue Box program. As part of that transition, old blue boxes, red boxes, and recycling carts fell outside the scope of CM’s new program.
Residents who still have unwanted, damaged, or incompatible blue boxes and recycling carts from the old Blue Box program may drop them off at any EWSWA Depot to ensure these resources are diverted from the landfill. Containers continue to be accepted free of charge.
“We are incredibly grateful to the residents of Essex-Windsor who brought their unwanted or incompatible boxes and carts to EWSWA Depots,” said Cathy Copot-Nepszy, Manager of Waste Diversion. “The community response has been outstanding, and together we kept a significant number of valuable resources out of our local landfill. We are proud to have stepped up to support our residents through this transition.”
