Green Bin Collection Begins Next Week - Week of October 21st!
For Immediate Release
October 17, 2025
Green Bin collection in Essex, Lakeshore, LaSalle, Tecumseh, and Windsor starts next week! So it’s time to get a few things in order so that residents can finally put their food waste in the right place- the Green Bin, and not the garbage.
Keys to success with the Green Bin Program:
- Collection day. Download the Recycle Coach App, check your municipal calendar or visit www.ewswa.org for your weekly collection schedule that starts the week of October 21st.
- Set-out time. Always set-out your Green Bin by 6AM, so that you don’t miss the collection truck.
- “How-To-“ Green Bin It! Check your Green Bin Starter Kit to be ready for collection and to know what materials are acceptable in the Green Bin Program.
- Bin and Bag. Only the EWSWA Green Bins can be used and if you choose to use a compostable bag(s), they must have the BNQ/BPI certification logos.
As this program will use collection trucks with automated lifting SET-OUT MATTERS! Therefore residents must use Park-Point-Space (P-P-S) when setting out their Green Bin so that it can be serviced:
- PARK the Green Bin about 30 cm behind the curb;
- POINT the arrows on the Green Bin lid towards the street; and
- SPACE the Green Bin at least 1 metre from other carts/structures.
Residents who want to be GoldStar recycler’s of food waste can go to www.ewswa.org where they can find many more great tips on how they can set-up and use their Green Bin successfully. Residents do not need to apply for this new program. Collectors and the EWSWA Green Team will randomly audit Green Bins and issue GoldStar stickers to A+ users of the Green Bin Program.
By using the new Green Bin Program, residents will help extend the life of our only local landfill and avoid the high costs of citing a new one. In turn, they will support the agriculturally-rich lands that serve us by creating fertilizer that will be used to grow next year’s harvest.
