Green Bin Collection Begins Next Week - Week of October 21st!

For Immediate Release

October 6, 2025

As the Green Bin delivery plan is nearing completion, the Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority (EWSWA), the County of Essex, and the City of Windsor are encouraging residents to Grow Green this Harvest. Yes, the southernmost region of Canada is finally starting a Green Bin Program this month, where residents can put their food waste in the right place- the Green Bin, and not the garbage!

The EWSWA’s Green Bin weekly collection program starts the week of October 21st, 2025 in Essex, Lakeshore, LaSalle, Tecumseh and Windsor. To further boost waste diversion and use of the new Green Bin, the City of Windsor will begin their biweekly garbage collection change at the same time.  Garbage collection schedules will remain the same in County of Essex municipalities. Residents can find their collection schedules by: downloading the Recycle Coach App, checking their municipal calendar, or by simply visiting www.ewswa.org.

Not only is Thanksgiving weekend a great time to fill your belly with great foods, but it’s the perfect time to start filling your new Green Bin with food waste – turkey bones, skin, fats, produce peels, etc. By using the new Green Bin Program, residents may reduce their garbage by half, which will help to extend the life of our only local landfill and avoid the high costs of a new one. In turn, they will support the agriculturally-rich lands that serve us by creating fertilizer and renewable energies that will help to grow next year’s harvest.

To Grow Green with Us This Harvest and kick-off the Green Bin Collection Program, the EWSWA is inviting the media to join us and our partners for a fun-filled event and light snacks at:
