EWSWA Policy & Procedures By Facility

The following policies and procedures are enforced while visiting any one of the EWSWA Depots as well as the Essex-Windsor Regional Landfill. Please review them ahead of your visit to ensure compliance is met.

Note: Any equipment dropped off (for disposal or recycling) with a gas tank MUST be emptied first. 

EWSWA Facilities

  • Aggressive Behaviour: Any type of aggressive behaviour towards EWSWA staff, contractors, or others on site is not tolerated.
  • Cameras: Smile you are on camera! All on-site activity is being recorded by cameras that are located on site.
  • Children & Pets: All children (under 16) and pets must stay in the vehicle at all times.
  • Crossing the Scale: All vehicles will cross the scale, except for those dropping off yard
  • waste and not using a double-axle trailer, buying compost electronics – EWSWA staff will determine if and/or when a vehicle will cross the scale.
  • Double-Axle Trailers: All double-axle trailers must cross the scale and will be charged at the commercial rate.
  • Empty Gas Tanks: Any equipment being dropped off that has a gas tank - the gas tank must be emptied prior to disposal/recycling. 
  • Inbound Waste: All inbound waste will be inspected.
  • No Dump Trucks: Dump trucks are not allowed to use the Depot for disposal/recycling.
  • No Illegal Dumping: Residents must not dump materials outside of the Depot property, or inside the Depot in a non-designated (wrong) area.
  • No Skipping in Line: Residents must not skip in line unless directed to do so by EWSWA staff.
  • Not Accepted: Ammunition, Asbestos, Biomedical Waste, Explosives, Radioactive Materials and Syringes at this Depot.
  • Obey Proper Procedures: Residents must have their vehicles properly loaded and secured before entering the Depot, residents must obey on-site traffic signs and follow proper recycling/disposal procedures.

  • Tandem Axle & Triple Axle Dump Vehicles: Tandem axle and triple axle vehicles are not allowed at this Depot (they cannot be processed safely). These types of vehicles will be directed to the Essex-Windsor Regional Landfill site located at 7700 County Rd. 18 in Essex.
  • Vehicles Allowed: Transfer Station #2 allows the following types of vehicles to use the facility: small commercial vehicles, residential and farm vehicles, and commercial packers.

  • Aggressive Behaviour: Any type of aggressive behaviour towards EWSWA staff, contractors, or others on site is not tolerated.
  • Asbestos: The Essex-Windsor Regional Landfill can only receive asbestos from a licensed hauler, registered with the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks. The Essex-Windsor Regional Landfill does not accept asbestos from residential customers. Residential customers can call restoration companies, or local waste haulers for the removal of asbestos. Commercial customers can call 519-776-7941 for an appointment and/or more information.
  • Cameras: Smile you are on camera! All on-site activity is being recorded by cameras that are located on site.
  • License Plate: EWSWA staff will record the license plate number of the vehicle and a general description of the waste while the vehicle is on the scale.
  • Minimum Vehicle Weight: Only vehicles will a gross vehicle weight of 3 tonnes (or more) are allowed on site. Smaller vehicles can use the Public Drop Off Depot (Windsor) or Transfer Station #2 (Kingsville).
  • Speed Limit: The speed limit for all vehicles at this site is 20 km per hour. Speed limits are strictly enforced and non-compliance will not be tolerated.
  • Vehicle Must Cross Scale: All vehicles must report to the scale before entering the site.
  • Waste Must Be Tarped: No vehicle shall be permitted to enter the site with an uncovered or unsecured load of waste.
