Pile of food waste

Green Bin Collection Starts in October

Green Bin Collection starts the week of October 21st. Here are some tips to help you set yourself up for success:

  • Make sure you know your specific Green Bin collection day.
  • Write your address on your Green Bin.
  • Take some time to set-up your Kitchen Catcher and Green Bin in your home. Every home is different, so your set-up will be individual to you, your family, and your lifestyle.
  • Your set-up should reflect how you meal prep, cook and eat in your home.
  • Your Kitchen Catcher should be in a convenient place for food waste collection.

The Green Bin is the property of the EWSWA and is to be used only for the Green Bin program. If you move, the Green Bin must remain at that address.

At delivery, the Green Bin will be scanned and linked to a corresponding address so that it can be recorded in the EWSWA database. This information is essential to the new Green Bin Repair & Request Program (available July 21, 2025) that will track issues related to Green Bin repairs, warranty, requests, etc. This new program is important as it will support both residents and automated collection during this program.

1. Check your municipal calendar (HINT: Look in October!)

2. Download the Recycle Coach app and request Green Bin Program notifications.

To be efficient with shipping almost 120,000 Green Bins to this region, lids may be slightly warped when delivered and may affect the initial seating of your lock.

Seating your lock can be as easy as 1 – 2 – 3. Check out the video below.

  1. Stand in front of your Green Bin, open your lid (turn the lock key to the right) and locate the black locking mechanism under the lid.
  2. Place your hand behind the locking mechanism and gently pull it towards you to align it with the lower latch that is inside and on the body of the GB. It may take a few attempts!
  3. Once aligned, drop the lid from 6-8 inches to engage the lock and listen for a “Click”. Lift the lid handle near the lock to verify that the lid remains closed and the lock is seated properly. If you do not hear the “Click” repeat Step 2.
  4. Once your lock is “seated” (you have heard “Click”), set your Green Bin outside in a safe space where it can get some sun and settle into its new home. If after one week, the lock issue persists, please contact us at: 1-800-563-3377 to arrange for service support.
