Phase 2 Collection Starts in November 2026
Green Bin Collection starts in November 2026 for Amherstburg, Kingsville and Leamington. Here are some tips to help you set yourself up for success:
For Curbside Collection
- Make sure you know your specific Green Bin collection day. Check "November" in your municipal calendar.
- Write your address on your Green Bin.
- Store your Green Bin in a safe and convenient location.
- Make sure you use the PPS method for set-out on your Green Bin collection day.
Why does Park-Point-Space Method of Set-Out Matter?
It is critical that the EWSWA Green Bin is set-out properly for collection as automated trucks will be used for this program. Use the P-P-S (Park-Point-Space) method below.
- PARK the Green Bin about 30cm (1ft) behind the curb
- POINT the arrows on the Green Bin lid to the street, and wheels towards the house.
- SPACE the Green Bin at least 1 metre apart from other carts, cars or structures
GREEN TIPS:
- Set-out exceptions may include but not limited to: roads with street parking, homes with no driveway/space, roads with alternating street parking, one-way streets, etc.
- Only the EWSWA Green Bin will be serviced for the Green Bin Program in order to ensure compatibility with automated collection trucks.
For Kitchen Set-Up
- Take some time to set-up your Kitchen Catcher and Green Bin in your home. Every home is different, so your set-up will be individual to you, your family, and your lifestyle.
- Your set-up should reflect how you food prep, cook and eat meals in your home.
- Your Kitchen Catcher should be located in a convenient place for food waste collection.
- If you decide to use compostable bags to line your Kitchen Catcher, make sure you purchase them from a reputable brand and do not overbuy/stockpile. They are designed to decompose.
- Look for the BPI/BNQ certification logos on compostable bags to ensure they are compostable.
- Store compostable bags in a cool dry place.
